I am passionate about making my friends at memory care homes happy!

I was blessed with a passion for singing.  Singing makes me joyful and I enjoy bringing my gift of singing to nursing homes because it makes the residents joyful, too!  My friends at the Alzheimer’s care home like when I sing “God Bless America” the best.  It is amazing that when I sing, nearly all of my friends sing or clap along.  Sometimes, they remember the words to songs even though they may not remember my name, what month it is, or even their family members.  I believe that when they are happy and joyful from music the feeling lasts, at least for a while, even if the memory doesn’t.

For the past two Christmas seasons, I organized a group of kids from my school to sing Christmas carols at the nursing home.  It was fun to incorporate the community service that I love with my singing and my friends.  I announced my project at school, produced the materials, led the meetings and rehearsals, assigned parts, and set up the location and specifics of our volunteering and caroling.  We sang Christmas carols and served treats to both communities: the assisted living and then the memory care unit.  Everyone had a great time and I learned that I can manage a group of volunteers all on my own.  I can’t wait to do it again next year!
